Chana Tarakhovskaia (later Hannah Kaitiff)
Probably
taken in the Ukraine, c.1888
Chana
married Even-Benzian Katsev in Russia in 1893 and
they immediately
moved
to Liverpool, before settling in Southport c.1896.
She died there in 1939.

The
original of this photo is quite large and in an
ornate frame. When Chana's youngest daughter, Rachel
Kaitiff, died in Southport in 1995, the photo was
mislaid. Then, several years later, Rachel's nephew,
Leon Kaitiff and wife, Ruth, were having lunch in a
pub in Leeds, when Leon noticed the photo hanging on
the wall, as part of the pub's display of old
photos. He recognised it as being his grandmother,
and made arrangements with the pub chain to collect
it when their local branch of the chain next had a
delivery.
